New job!

A very exhausting day today, and all of it good! No med appointments, no scans, no needles. I was at work all day, met with several people, then started my new position.

No, not a new 'job' - more of an enhancement of my current job. I had my first meeting as chair of the "Animal Research Ethics Board" at McMaster University. Although I was previously on this board for ~14 years, today I got to officially sit at the head of the table!

I am excited about this new opportunity to help contribute to the research process, not to mention the chance to exercise my remaining vocal cord.   ;-)

It is finally official...

Remember this photo from early May?  It was taken just prior to a job interview at McMaster.

I am happy to finally announce that I have been appointed by the president of McMaster University to the position of Assistant Professor in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program!

I got the job!

If you recall the brief note in my previous post about the job interview, today I got an email that offered me the position. More details to come!

Is it a Wonderful World?

Some of you may have heard that I have been taking piano lessons since the spring. I finally got up the courage (and the spare time) to record one of the pieces I have been practicing.

Below is a YouTube video of me playing "What a Wonderful World".  Let me know what you think.

This is the direct link to the video if your browser doesn't play it directly. https://youtu.be/2-_tljmoDyE

Considering my recent change in employment status (anyone looking for an "unemployed 52 year old medical scientist"?). Now I am wondering whether I really should have selected something celebrating how wonderful the world is?  Either way, I played it at a rather melancholy tempo... that was a choice based more on skill, than on affect.

The meat guy!

Adam has had a part time job for a few weeks preparing a brand new "No Frills" grocery store as it got ready to open. It is not far from Wendy's parents on the 'west mountain' in Hamilton/Ancaster.

Today, the store opened for the first time and he also did his first all day shift. Here he is this morning not wanting to show us the front of his shirt - it had his name and a cute "smiley face"!!!

Wendy had the day off, so she went snooping at the new store to see if she could catch him actually working. Sure enough, she found him in the meat department, as he is now the meat guy.

Although not a great image from Wendy's phone, here he is helping a customer.
